FRIENDS IN FAMOUS PLACES.... FEATURING GRAPHIC DESIGNER KUPIART

So who exactly is KupiArt? She's a Graphic Designer for the underground & independent hip-hop scene in North Jersey & NYC. She helps to elevate and market distinctive artists. First and foremost she is a lover of music. She comes from a family of musicians and artists, and has developed a great ear for it since childhood. Through teachings and experiences, she has acquired a keen sense of the business as well. Music is her deepest passion and greatest love. Kupi is happy to be a part of it and helps advance quality musicians. She's built a reputation for doing work fast, being reliable, and professional. You can get a sense of her client list on her website at www.kupiart.com. She has designed flyers, CD & LP packaging various ads and promotional items for The Knitting Factory, Downtown Recordings, Cornerstone Promotion, KOCH Distribution/HBD Label Group, !K7 Records, BBE Records, Smacks Records, SoulSpazm Records, Strange Fruit Project, Guru, Jean Grae, Prince Paul, ?uestlove (The ROOTS), DJ Ease, DJ Static, DJ Revolution, DJ Disco Wiz, The Juggaknots, Eternia, Da Beatminerz, Akrobatik, Louie Vega, Gnarls Barkley, Kevin Michael, Dam-Funk, Cymarshall Law, Silent Knight, Hasan Salaam, Rugged N Raw, and tons more. Some of her  work has been featured in magazines XXL, The Source, URB, Rinse, Scratch, Wax Poetics, Vice & Elemental. And the work never stops! She never wanted to play the background. She's also strived for more. So when she's not cursing out everyone's favorite MC, she's hard at work taking care of those who show real heart for what they do.

Kupi is originally from Paterson, NJ, but lived in Savannah, GA for 9 years. There she went to college earning a BFA in Graphic Design at The Savannah College of Art & Design. She began designing flyers for random hip hop shows during her 1999 internship in NYC. This prompted her to move back to New Jersey in 2002 and it's been a non-stop roller coaster ride ever since. Until recently, she was the Graphic Designer for Marketing the event planning magazine empire BIZBASH MEDA in New York. There she helped design special marketing materials for BizBash Magazine and to promote their expos and trade shows for event and party planners in the New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington D.C., and Chicago areas. Before that Kupi was the Graphic Design Production Manager for STUDIO DISTRIBUTION, until they closed in March of 2006 (thanks for all your illegal downloads people!)

In 2010 Kupi has developed quite a name for herself. Always outspoken, but humble with her work. Clients are rarely ever dissatisfied with her creations and usually come back because they know they can count on her. Although a bit older than the newbies coming into this music thing, she knows how much has changed over the last few years and is branching out into new territories. She recently launched her novelty button collection called KupiFLAIR. Everything from funky little phrases to cool designs made by Kupi herself. It's just a start but there's no telling where this can lead.

"I think artwork has been an afterthought. Yes, the musician does great things, but it's our job to make them seen. In most cases, before they hear you, they see you." - kupi
